Services

At American Animal Hospital, we are focused on providing the best care for your pet throughout the stages of his or her life. The requirements for pet care change as your pet moves from baby to child to adolescent to adult to senior. It is important that your pet is examined on a regular basis to respond to these changes.

American Animal Hospital is well-equipped to provide the following services to address your pet's needs.



Wellness and Preventive Care

  • New puppy and new kitten visits.
  • Annual and semi-annual exams.
  • Nutrition and behavior counseling.
  • Vaccinations. (We carefully monitor current protection guidelines.)
  • Heartworm detection and prevention.
  • Parasite prevention.
  • Flea and tick control.
  • Reproductive and spay or neuter procedures.
  • Senior wellness (see below).
  • Microchip insertion.
  • Bathing and Nail trimming.


Diagnostic

  • Systematic examination by a veterinarian with written assessment.
  • In-house laboratory.
  • Blood work, both in-house and in consultation with specialized external laboratories.
  • Radiology and dental X-rays.
  • Urine and fecal analysis.
  • Diagnostic Ultrasound.
  • ECG.

When should you bring your pet in?

Semi-annual exams are best, but bring your pet in at least once a year for examination by a veterinarian. In addition, we recommend you bring your pet in at the following times:

 • 

To meet your pet's vaccination schedule.

 • 

When behavior or nutrition counseling is needed.

 • 

When you observe any of the following in your pet:

Lumps or bumps that were previously not there or have changed.

Changes in behavior or activity level.

Changes in eating or drinking habits.

Limping, stiffness or difficulty climbing or walking.

Seizures, tremors or shaking.

Changes in housetraining or sleeping habits.



Surgery and Anesthesia

  • Surgery is special at American Animal Hospital! The list of reasons for surgery is long, ranging from routine to emergency care. All surgeries are performed with the comfort and safety of your pet as our primary focus.We have a state-of-the art surgical suite and perform surgery in ways similar to a surgeon operating on humans, using full cap, gown and mask.
  • The doctor performs a preanesthetic physical assessment, including on-site blood tests. IV fluids and monitoring by a certified veterinary technician are standard.
  • Our anesthesia (Isofluorane) is the safest available and can make the difference when used with senior or high risk patients.
  • High frequency Radio Wave Surgery, which has all the advantages of laser surgery, is standard (not an additional cost) for all cat declaw procedures.


Medical

  • Lameness evaluation.
  • Skin care and allergies.

  • Heart and lung management.

  • Therapeutic Laser Treatment.


Senior Care

  • Examination, evaluation and counseling.
  • Arthritis and joint care.
  • Pain Management using prescription medication and joint supplements.
  • Dental care (see below).
  • Nutrition counseling and prescription diets.
  • Diagnostic monitoring.



Dental

  • Dental X-rays.
  • Full service dental cleaning following the AAHA recommended 7-step guidelines.
    • Always performed by a veterinarian or certified veterinary technician.
    • Always performed under gas anesthesia and on IV fluids.
    • Always performed with state-of-the-art, sterilized instrumentation.
  • Extractions and periodontal treatments.
  • ORAVET® dental sealing system available.

Pharmacy

  • We maintain a complete in-house pharmacy of medications to meet your pet's changing needs.


Euthanasia

  • Counseling as to the best time, location and procedure.
  • Peaceful, non-hurried procedure with your participation, if desired.
